Allen Tinkham leads the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) in its 2013-2014 season with performances including Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite (1911), Brahms' Symphony No. 4, and Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras is one of 27 American orchestras that were honored with 2012-2013 ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming at the League of American Orchestras' National
Conference in Seatlle, WA this June. CYSO received the first place Award for Programming of Contemporary Music in the Youth Orchestras division for featuring works of contemporary composers in its 2011-2012 season. This is CYSO's twelfth ASCAP award, the ninth of which has happened under the leadership of Music Director Allen Tinkham. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the League present the awards each year to orchestras of all sizes for programs that challenge the audience, build the repertoire, and increase interest in music of our time.

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) Announces Appointment of New Executive Director

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO), one of the nation’s premier youth orchestras, announced during its gala celebration on Saturday that Joshua Simonds, who previously served with CYSO for nine years, has been appointed as Executive Director. “I am honored that the Board of Directors has asked me to return to CYSO as the next Executive Director. I look forward to working again with Maestro Tinkham, the Board of Directors and CYSO’s artistic and administrative staff to continue building upon CYSO’s historic and innovative 66 year history,” said Mr. Simonds.

Tour of Spain with Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and Allen Tinkham return from their latest international tour to Spain. On June 14, 2012, the CYSO's Symphony Orchestra embarked on a ten day tour of the Spanish cities of Madrid, Cuenca, Valencia and Barcelona, performing concerts in some of Spain's most prestigious concert halls and a music festival. The concert programs included Barber's Second Essay, Strauss' Don Juan, Borodin's Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.
